21 Easy And Effective Home Remedies for Blisters

Blister occurs in the superficial skin layers. The blisters can be filled with serum, blood or pus. There are many home remedies and prevention tips that help to cure blisters faster.  

Use deodorant it is important to keep the feet bone dry so as to prevent moisture and friction which can worsen blisters. To do that, slide the gel variety of deodorant around the sides and tops of clean, dry feet before wearing a new pair of shoes. The deodorant lubricates any problem areas and reduce rubbing.

Make a tent Bandages reduce friction and protect your blister from irritating contact. Make a mini ‘tent’ by applying the sticky ends of the bandage closer together, with the middle padded part rising slightly over the blister. This allows the blister to breathe, promoting healing while protecting it from friction or dirt and debris that could cause infection.

Green tea dip Brew 3-4 tea bags in boiling water. Add a teaspoon of baking soda (antiseptic). Allow the brew to cool. Then soak your blister in it. If the blister is in such area of the body which is difficult to dip, you can keep gauze dipped in this liquid against the blister. If the blister has not popped, you can soak it in the warm water and speed up the healing process. This helps the blisters to soften up and drain the fluid inside.

Alternatively steep a green tea bag in 1 cup of hot water for about 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag and allow it to cool. Put the moist tea bag on the blister for few minutes. Repeat 4-5 times daily for a few days.

Drink green tea 2-3 times daily to speed up the healing process.
Green tea has anti-inflammatory property which aid quick healing. It has several vitamins and antioxidants that will help the blisters heal quickly.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps prevent infection and reduce pain and inflammation. This will help prevent a popped blister from becoming infected. It may sting but is worth trying.

Dip a cotton ball or gauze in apple cider vinegar. Gently swab it around the affected area. Allow it to dry. If it irritates, dilute it with water and then apply.

Alternatively, mix ½ teaspoon of onion paste with 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Apply the mixture on the blister. Allow it to dry. Rinse it off with warm water.

If this remedy causes pain, wash the blister with hydrogen peroxide and covering with an antibacterial ointment.
Do it twice daily for a few days to get rid of the blisters.

vitamin E foods

Vitamin E has excellent skin repairing properties. It helps skin cells heal quickly and prevents scarring. It acts as moisturizer and relieves itchiness. It facilitates the healing process and prevents scarring.
Vitamin E oils or creams will help. Alternatively pop open a vitamin E pill and apply the liquid directly to your blistered skin.

Alternatively slice open a vitamin E capsule and extract the oil. Mix it with an equal amount of olive oil or calendula oil. Smear this mixture on the blister and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Continue this treatment for a week.

castor oil

Castor oil apply castor oil before retiring to the bed at night. Keep it overnight to help your blister dry up and heal. It can be mixed with apple cider vinegar for hastening up healing process. ½ cup of vinegar and 3 teaspoons of castor oil should be mixed and made into a mixture. Rub this solution gently on the blister several times a day for a few days. The blisters will go away.

Hazel Witch hazel contains astringent tannins that will help to dry out your blister, keeping it clean and helping it heal. Use a clean cotton ball with each application.

Aloe vera gel is an anti-inflammatory, so it will help reduce redness and swelling that cause pain. It is also very useful in healing 2nd and 3rd degree burns and many types of blisters. It also helps to keep the skin hydrated, reduces redness and swelling and heals blisters quickly. It also reduces the risk of infection.

Apply fresh aloe vera gel on the blister and allow it to dry on its own. Rinse it off with warm water.
Another option is to prepare a mixture with equal quantities of aloe vera gel and vitamin E oil. Apply it on the blister and allow it to dry on its own. Rinse it off with warm water.

Let the blisters breathe Blisters will heal quicker if it is left uncovered in a clean environment. Remove bandages when you are at home and give your blister a chance to breathe and dry up naturally. Apply a thin layer of antibacterial ointment to promote healing and also to protect it from infection.

Epsom Salt helps to dry out an un-popped blister and encourage it to drain. It is high in magnesium and helps in reducing inflammation, pain and swelling. It also prevents infection.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of Epsom salt to a foot tub filled with warm water and stir it in thoroughly. Soak your feet in this water for about 15 minutes. Remove your feet, pat dry and then apply a coating of petroleum jelly or vitamin E oil. Do this once daily, for a few days. Once the blister pops, the Epsom salt will sting. If this happens discontinue using it.

Tea Tree Oil has antibacterial and astringent properties. These properties help treat blisters on the foot. It also reduces the risk of an infection.

Dilute 1 part tea tree oil with 3 parts of any vegetable oil or plain water. Use a cotton ball to apply this solution on the blisters. Allow it to sit for about 10 minutes. Then rinse it off with cold water. Do it 2-3 times a day, repeat it for few days. Alternatively ointment made with tea tree oil can be used to treat foot blister.

Chamomile – has soothing and healing properties. It can ease the pain and heal the swelling of a foot blister.
Make a strong cup of chamomile tea and let it cool to room temperature. Dip a clean washed cloth in it. Wring out the excess moisture. Put the moist wash cloth over the blister for 10 minutes. Repeat several times a day to get relief from pain and itchiness.

Turmeric rhizome and powder

Turmeric has healing properties. It will alleviate pain and inflammation. It is also antiseptic in nature and will help prevent infection.

Mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder with enough water or pure rose water to make a paste. Apply this paste on the blister. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. Follow this treatment for 2-3 times a day for a few days.

Drink a glass of warm turmeric milk daily before going to bed to hasten healing process.

White toothpaste dries out your foot blister quickly. Toothpaste contains baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol and menthol and thus is useful. It gives quick relief from itchiness.
Put a small amount of toothpaste on your clean finger. Apply it on the affected area and leave it on for at least 2 hours. Clean it off with a damp washcloth and then apply some foot cream or petroleum jelly. Follow it 1-2 times daily until the blister is cured. Do not use whitening, gel or coloured toothpastes.
