Types

Based on colour, it is of four types.

Brahmana Varna – Colour similar to the flower of Shireesha.
Kshatriya Varna – Deep green colour
Vaishya Varna – Greenish with yellow tinge.
Shudra Varna – Grayish tinge.

Suitable characters

हरिद्वर्णं गुरु स्निग्धं स्फुरद्र्‌श्मिचयं शुभम ।
मसृणं भासुरं तार्क्ष्यं गात्रं सप्तगुणं स्मृतम ॥ (र.र.स. ४/२०)
haridvarṇaṃ guru snigdhaṃ sphuradr‌śmicayaṃ śubhama |

Green colour, heavy, unctuous, which reflects rays in different directions, shining, sof, and big size are considered s suitable characters of Marakata.

Unsuitable characters

Blackish, rough, blue, grayish, with impurities, curved, dry – are the unsuitable characters of Marakata.

Qualities

ज्वरच्छर्दिविषश्वाससन्निपाताग्निमान्द्यनुत ।
दुर्नामपाण्डुशोफघ्नं तार्क्ष्यमोजोविवर्धनम ॥ (र.र.स. ४/२२)

Marakata is useful in the treatment of –
Jwara – fever,
Chardi – vomiting,
Visha – poison,
Shwasa – dyspnea,
Sannipata – fever due to the disturbance of all the three doshas,
Mandagni – low digestion strength,
Arsha – hemorhoids,
Pandu – anemia and
Shotha – swelling
It increases Ojus.

Chemical composition – 3BeO, Al₂0_3,,6SiO₂Indications of Marakata pishti – Ojovardhaka (immunity booster), fever, vomit, thirst, hyperacidity, dyspnoea, cough, anemia, constipation, hemarrhoids, inflammations, diabetes. It also improves memory and longevity. It is considered to be the best medicine for snake bite.

Dose – 62.5 mg -125 mg
Adjuvants – Honey and long pepper or as per the disease.
Formulations – Mani parpati, Ratnabhagottara rasa, jawaharmohra vati, Navaratnaraja mriganka rasa.

Marana

Marakata is added with equal parts of Gandhaka, Manashila and Haratala, given Bhavana with Nimbuswarasa, cakes are prepared and subjected to 8 Puta of heat to get its Bhasma.
