Whenever you peel the skin from any fruit or vegetables, instead of throwing it out, cut them into small pieces and put them in the root of the soil.
Soft skins of fruits and vegetables like banana, mango, apple, cucumber, beet etc are preferred.
Hard skins like orange take a long time to disintegrate and become one with the soil.
Onion and garlic are avoided due to their bad smell.

Tips

Pro tip:
1. After putting the vegetable and fruit peels, cover it with mud. If you leave the peels open in air, it may attract flies.

2. If you can get wood ash, then whenever plants have minor infection, sprinkling the wooden ash helps to get rid of such infections. Wood ash is also used put in to the plant pot.
For this, wood ash is made to age for a few days, only then it is used.
Freshly prepared wood ash is not recommended.
This procedure adds to the taste to the grown vegetables.

Example

This is called Malabar Spinach – Basale Soppu – Basella alba or Basella rubra (red variety). A very precious leafy vegetable that is commonly used in Karnataka dishes. Usually the leaves are smaller. But look at the yield when we put the rice washed water, vegetable peel waste and ash into it!

On another note, the leaves of Malabar spinach are chewed raw to treat mouth ulcers
Below is the vegetable – fruit peel mix

The below one is, compost being added to the malabar spinach pot.
