Akasha Mudra For Body Stability, Vata Balance

The middle finger represents the ether element or vacuum. Ether element is called Akasha  Mahabhuta or Shunya in Sanskrit. Hence, this Mudra, done with middle finger is called Akasha Mudra.

Mahabhuta involved

agni (fire) and akasha (ether) in the balanced state as the tips are joined.

Procedure

Sit in any comfortable posture with relaxed body and mind. Join the tips of thumb and middle finger of both the hands. Straighten the other three fingers of both the hands so that they are slightly apart and relaxed. Place the hands on the knees. Concentrate on breathing pattern.

Varitation

Variation to form Shoonya Mudra:
The middle finger is bent completely and the thumb is placed over and across the middle finger.

Benefits

  • Regular practice of this mudra improves hearing.
  • It maintains the body stability.
  • Vata Dosha has vacuum as one of its elements. Hence, this Hasta Mudra (Hand gesture) is useful for Vata Dosha balance. It balances our neurological system.

Functional factors

  • BELIEF – Have faith. It is a complimentary therapy and can be used side by side with any therapy.
  • MIND – Before practicing mudra, take a few deep breaths, till the breathing is rhythmic and the mind is relaxed.

  • BODY – Keep the body relaxed and at ease.
