Introduction
For treating the abscess, urinary calculi and any kind of growth, the foremost used herb is – Varnua – Crataeva nurvala. It is known as Three Leaved Caper in English and its botanical name is Crataeva nurvala Roxb. It belongs to Capparidaceae family.
Bark, root bark and leaves are the main usable parts of this plant and roots are quite abundantly used.
The plants of Varuna are found abundantly in Malabal area. Other habitat of this drug is Madhyapradesh, Bengal and Assam.
It balances Kapha and Vata Dosha. The roots are the used parts of this plant.
Its lithotripsic, anti inflammatory, analgesic and broncho-dilating studies have been carried and significant benefits were also reported.
Usage of varuna in internal abscesses is being carried since several centuries and classical literatures, especially Sushruta samhita and Ashtanga sangraha texts explained the role of formulations containing Varuna in such conditions. Still found and documented lithotripsic (Ashmari bhedana) property of this drug is worth appraisal because several case reports have been published regarding successful management of dysuria and chronic urinary calculi cases by the formulations containing three leaved caper.
Ayurvedic formulations
Varunadi kashaya, Varunadi ghanavati, Varunadi ghrita, Varunadi kashaya, Mootrakricchrahara kashaya etc are the formulations containing Varum, na in significant amount.
Main chemical constituents of the plants are Lupeol, β –sitosterol, Betulinic Acid, Quercetin, Kaempferol, Friedelin etc.

Home remedies
Some of the simple remedies and their health benefits are compiled and presented here below-
Anaemia, jaundice
1. Fresh leaf juice of Crataeva nurvala as bitter tonic:
Fresh leaves of the plant (5-6) are taken and fresh juice is obtained. If necessary little water can be added while obtaining the juice.2-3 spoon of this juice is advised daily among the patients who are suffering from anemia, jaundice, senile debility followed with BPH – prostate enlargement etc.

2. Root bark powder for prostate enlargement:
1-2 gram of root bark powder is advised to take along with warm water or honey for 2-3 months. This relieves the dysuria and prostatic enlargements.
Urinary calculi, dysuria
3. Bark decoction for urinary calculi, dysuria, internal abscess etc:
20-30 gram of the bark(fresh is preferred) is taken and decoction is made. This is administered in empty stomach. Later sufficient amount of water intake is advised. This is effective in urinary calculi, dysuria, internal abscess etc.
General method of decoction preparation is –
1 tablespoon (10 grams) fo coarse powder of the herb is added with 2 cups of water. Boiled in open air till the total content is reduced to 1 cup. This is filtered and used.

4. Root paste with Plantain tube juice for urinary calculi:
Fine paste of the fresh root is made (3-5 gram).This is dissolved in banana tube juice or tender coconut water or rice washed water. This is very effective to break the urinary calculi.
Simple medicines are needed not to treat mere simple illness conditions; but also to effectively manage even the grave disorders too in simple manner or in easy way. Also nothing wrong in trying the grave disorders too with simple remedies, under medical supervision.
