Marmas Of The Chest – Urogata Marma

Uro Gata Marmas are the Marmas (vital points, delicate areas, points of the body causing death or damage or deformity when injured) located in the chest region. 

There are 5 Marmas located in the Uras or Chest. Each Marma is 2 in number with the exception of Hridaya which is 1 in number. Therefore the number of Uro Gata Marmas account to 9 in number.

Hridaya marma
– In the chest cavity between breasts  and near opening of the stomach – Injury leads to immediate death. It is a type of Sira Marma and Sadhyo Pranahara Marma.

Sthana Mula marma – Located below the sthana (breasts) on both sides of the chest – 2 in number – Injury leads to  filling of thoracic cavity with phlegm and exudates, cough, dyspnoea and consequential death.
It is a type of Sira Marma and Kalantara Pranahara Marma.

Sthanarohita – Located above the nipples on both sides of the chest – 2 in number – Injury leads to filling up of thoracic cavity with blood, cough, dyspnoea and consequential death. It is a type of Mamsa marma and Kaalantara Praanahara Marma.

Apalapa marma – Located below the acromian process of the scapula and above the sides of the thorax, near the arm pit on either side of the chest – 2 in number – Injury leads to formation of pus in chest cavity (septicaemia) consequentially leading to death. It is a type of Sira Marma and Kaalantara Praanahara Marma.

Apastambha marmaAir carrying ducts (Naadi) located one on either side of the mid line of the chest – 2 in number – Injury leads to filling of thoracic cavity with air, cough, difficult respiration and consequent death. It is a type of Sira Marma and Kaalantara Praanahara Marma.

Categorization of 5 Uro Gata Marmas based on their structure:
Mamsa Marmas  – 1 – Sthanarohita
Siraa Marmas – 04 – Hridaya, Sthanamoola, Apalaapa, Apastambha

Categorization of 5 Uro Gata Marmas based on the effect of injury of the Marma:
Sadhyo Praanahara – Hridaya
Kaalantara Praanahara – 04 – Sthanamoola, Sthanarohita, Apalapa, Apastambha
