Doshas Causing Bad Breath

Can decreased digestion strength cause bad breath? What is the relation between Doshas and bad breath? How to solve it?
Dr JV Hebbar
Yes, as per Ayurveda, bad breath and bad digestion process are inter connected.
Visra – A peculiar smell is a quality of Pitta dosha. Pitta dosha aggravation leads to hampering of digestive activities, which can further lead to bad breath. In this case, Pitta correcting and digestive fire kindling measures are adopted.
For example: A teaspoon of Hingvashtaka Churna with ghee – before food. Here, Hingvashtaka churna kindles the digestion strength, while the cow ghee balances and corrects the Pitta dosha.

In people with Vata dosha aggravation, there will be severe bloating and constipation. The accumulated gasses can cause bad breath.
Here, the treatment should focus on
1. Relieving constipation – with castor oil, Haritaki, Triphala, banana, fiber rich diet etc.
2. Relieving bloating – with asafoetida, cumin, fennel, fenugreek, dill seed etc.
3. Balancing Vata dosha – with oil massage and sweating treatment,  with hingvashtaka churnam, Shaddharana churnam, HinguVachadi churnam etc.
