Wait A Moment Before Starting To Eat: A Healthy Eating Tip

If you have read any five articles in this website, you might already be knowing one Ayurveda principle – You have to eat food only when you are completely hungry. If you are not hungry, it indicates that the previous food is still undergoing digestion and your stomach and intestines are not yet ready to receive new batch of food.

If you have visited a Brahmin marriage function, in the beginning, while they serve different  dishes over a banana leaf, you are not supposed to start eating them until all the first-round of 10+ dishes are served.

So, once you sit in front of banana leaf, for around 3 – 5 minutes, you will be watching different dishes being served, but you can start eating only after final chanting of Mantras is done. There are three scientific purposes for this.

Indian meal

1. It gives a moment for you to thank the Deity for all the good things you are gifted with, including the food in front of you.
2. It gives a moment for you to offer the food to the Deity, mentally, and later consume it as his Prasada.
3. When you are seeing different dishes being served, your hunger keeps on growing. By the time the final Mantra chanting is done, you are totally hungry and ready to digest whatever you are going to eat.

Ayurvedic Medicines:
In ancient times, when the patient visited doctors, many medicines were prepared in front of the patient. They were prepared instantly and were given to him. This made the patient to smell the volatile principles of the herbs. This made the patient to develop an eagerness to consume the medicines.
If it was something like Chyawanprash or Kooshmanda Rasayan, the patient will be left salivating to taste a spoon of it.
This prepared the body of the patient to digest and absorb the medicines, by stimulating an eagerness towards the medicine in his mind.

So, medicine or food, they work best when the mind of the consumer is really ready to consume it.
Next time while taking food, consider giving a gap of a minute or two between serving and starting to eat.
