Goat Urine Benefits, Usage As Per Ayurveda

Goat urine is used for its medicinal benefits in Ayurveda. It is used both for oral consumption and external application in itchy skin disorders, Tinea infection etc.

आजं कषायमधुरं पथ्यं दोषान्निहन्ति च । च. सू. १/१००
ājaṃ kaṣāyamadhuraṃ pathyaṃ doṣānnihanti ca | ca. sū. 1/100

Urine of the goat is astringent, sweet, wholesome and balances all the three Doshas – Charaka Sutrasthana 1st chapter

Goat urine is used as a liquid binding agent in Vilwadi Gulika. It is used in treating scorpion bite, rodent bite etc. Read more about Vilwadi Gulika.

Qualities, uses, indications

Goat urine qualities and uses:
Katu – pungent
Ushna – hot
Rooksha – dry
Nadi – useful in treating deep sinuses
Vishahara – anti toxic
Artijit – relieves pain
Indicated in –

Pleeha – Spleen related disorders, splenomegaly
Udara – Ascites
Kapha disorders such as obesity
Shwasa – asthma, respiratory disorders involving difficulty in breathing
Gulma – abdominal tumour, distension
Shopha – oedema
It is useful in the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis.

Dose

Dose of goat urine:
It should be consumed only if advised by your Ayurvedic doctor.
Usual dose is 1 – 5 ml, once or in divided doses in a day.

Use in psychosis

Use of goat urine in treatment of psychosis (Unmada):
Recipe for Inhalation and Collyrium:
शिरीषो मधुकं हिङ्गु लशुनं तगरं वचा||६४||
कुष्ठं च बस्तमूत्रेण पिष्टं स्यान्नावनाञ्जनम्|
तद्वद्व्योषं हरिद्रे द्वे मञ्जिष्ठाहिङ्गुसर्षपाः||६५||
शिरीषबीजं चोन्मादग्रहापस्मारनाशनम्|
śirīṣo madhukaṃ hiṅgu laśunaṃ tagaraṃ vacā||64||
kuṣṭhaṃ ca bastamūtreṇa piṣṭaṃ syānnāvanāñjanam|
tadvadvyoṣaṃ haridre dve mañjiṣṭhāhiṅgusarṣapāḥ||65||
śirīṣabījaṃ conmādagrahāpasmāranāśanam|

Shireesha (Albizia lebbeck),
Madhuka (licorice), Asafoetida, garlic,
Tagara – Valeriana wallichii
Vacha – Acorus calamus
Kushta  – Saussurea lappa
The powder / paste of above herbs is triturated by adding goat’s urine. This paste is used [after dilution] for inhalation therapy and collyrium.

External application

Goat urine for external application:
Goat urine is applied externally to treat
Kandu – itching skin diseases
Dadru – ringworm, dermatophytosis or tinea infection
Visarpa – Herpes, spreading skin diseases

Mustard oil cooked with 4 times of goat urine is useful for massage for a patient suffering from epilepsy.

Goat urine is used as ingredient in Hingu Saindhava Ghrita, a ghee medicine mentioned by Charaka in the treatment of epilepsy.

Usage in uterine disorders

Varti (medicated bogie) is prepared of Kushta – Saussurea lappa, Pippali – Piper longum, buds of Arka – Calotropis gigantea and rock salt by triturating with goat’s urine.
It is kept inserted into the vagina which cures Karnini type of uterine diseases. All the therapeutic measures prescribed for the treatment of diseases caused by kapha are also beneficial for the cure of this ailment. (Charaka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana, 30th chapter)

Interaction with medicines, supplements

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

Can this medicine be continued while taking supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic / modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take Allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then take the Ayurvedic medicine.

      Saindhav Salt is useful to improve general nourishment. But it cannot be told as a specific medicine for tinitus.

    Distill the goat urine – take 100 ml
    Mix 25 grams of Turmeric powder to it.
    Apply this with gentle scrubbing over the hair areas.
    Leave it for 20 minutes, wash off.
    Do this once a day for a month time.
