Jadwar – Delphinium denudatum is used in Ayurveda and Unani, to treat cough, cold, non healing wounds etc. An antioxidant, it also has an anti convulsant effect. It is called as Nirvisha in Ayurveda

Family- RANUNCULACEAE (Vatsanabha kula)

Major chemical constituents

Alkaloids viz. Delphinine and staphisagrine. An alkaloid delphocurarine has been extracted from the root by Merck. Deterpene alkaloids –denudatine, denudatidine and from roots.

Guna (qualities) – Laghu (lightness), Rooksha (Dryness)
Rasa (taste) – Katu, (pungent) Tikta (Bitter)
Vipaka – Katu – Undergoes pungent taste conversion after digestion
Veerya – Ushna – Hot potency
Effect on Tridosha – Balances Kapha and Vata Dosha.

Benefits

Jadwar – Delphinium denudatum benefits:
Due to its hotness and pungency, it is used in treating cough, cold, asthma and respiratory disorders.
Vishadoshaghni – Useful in poisoning. Anti toxic. Useful against snake bite, Vatsanabha (Aconitum ferox) poisoning and digitalis poisoning.
Kaphahara – balances Kapha, useful in productive cough, asthma
Vatasrahara – useful in gout
Vranaropana – induces quick wound healing on external application.
It improves digestion strength.
It is a good general tonic, nervine tonic, diuretic, useful against fever.
It relieves pain, swelling and inflammation.
It has anticonvulsant activity, hemiplegia, paraplegia, paralysis, useful in schizophrenia, Manic depressive psychosis and leucoderma.

External application

Its paste is useful against skin disorders, leucoderma.
Its root is given to chewing to relieve toothache.
It is applied externally in snake and scorpion bites .

There are no known side effects with this medicine. Seek medical advice during pregnancy.

Interaction with medicines, supplements

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

Can this medicine be continued while taking supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic / modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take Allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then take the Ayurvedic medicine.

Jawahar Mohra
– a medicine in tablet form, used in the Ayurvedic treatment of cardiac diseases.
It is administered along with Swarna Bhasma in the treatment of poisoning.
Dhatri Rasayan – used in treating cough, cold, to improve strength and immunity.

Reproductive System – Aphrodisiac. It is indicated in Dysmenorrhea
Excretory system – Indicated in Dysuria associated with Urinary calculi
Tapakrama – Indicated in fever

Satmikarana – Ant poisonous, Stimulant, promotes strength. Indicated in Sarpa visha, Vatsanabha visha etc.
Skin – Indicated in skin disorders
