Shortening Panchakarma Therapy To Suit a Busy Patient – Dr CR Agnives

Panchakarma therapy

Question: Nowadays, no one is really free to go through weeks together of Panchakarma treatment. Hence, can the Panchakarma treatments be shortened to help patient’s busy schedule?

Dr CR Agnives – For Panchakarma therapy, there are some rules to be followed. Before Vamana and Virechana, patient has to undergo Snehana, then Swedana. And after Vamana and Virechana, there is some strict diet to be followed for 3 – 7 days.  If Vamana treatment (vomiting therapy) is done on a patient, you have to wait for 15 days, before conducting Virechana (purgation treatment).

Video explanation

This time gap is very essential because, in Vamana and Virechana treatments, you are voluntarily irritating the gut. Once the gut is irritated, it requires some times to get normal. Say, if you conduct Virechana without 15 days gap of Virechana, you are irritating the gut again, without normalizing it. It is a sin.

A real patient waits – Moreover, if the patient really wants proper treatment, he will surely wait for any suggested time to get his illness cured. Those who are in a hurry are not patients. Do not treat them with Panchakarma.

An ideal example: Once a team of many patients from Russia went to Vaidyaratnam Ousshadhasala. They demanded that these so and so procedures should be done on them within three days. They came with a list of treatments. The doctor there said that it cannot be done like that. The doctors here will examine and decide what treatments to do and when to do them. We cannot do treatments based on patient’s list.

Going for any extent to  extract money is not good. See, if you want to induce Vamana, Doshas should first come in to Koshta (gastro intestinal tract). Then only they can be expelled out. For this, at least one day Sadya Snehana, then Abhyanga and Swedana are minimum requirements.

So whatever you do, it should have at least an imaginary purpose. Without a proper planning, just blindly doing a treatment is something like…….. I won’t say butchering, because butchering is a very decent profession.

One days snehepanam is totally inadequate to prepare someone for Virechana or vamana. It is 3-5 days for Kapha and 5-8 days for Pitta and Vata, and either of these depends on Agni . A 15 day gap is not necessary between vamana and Virechana ; 7 days is adequate . If there is 15 days between vamana and Virechana , you must re-oleate. There are situations , which are acutely presenting where Vamana and Virechana can be done without snehepanam , but these are the preserve of a trained physician .
I’m sorry , but the methodology outlined by Dr CR Agnives is very misleading . Classic Panchakarma cannot be done without proper preparation , which starts the moment a patient begins treatment . Appropriate diet must be started immediately , not just after the Shodana therapies.
I have seen several Quick Fix so-called Panchakarma promoted on the Internet , but I didn’t expect to see it on this site.
I advise viewers to be ware .
This is not Panchakarma. This is a very damaging substitute.

Hi, The purpose of diet restrictions after Virechana treatment is to get good digestion strength and restore appetite.
In your case, if you developed good appetite after Virechana, then you have got nothing to worry.
If you have low digestion strength, consult your doctor and include a bit of ginger and black pepper powders in your diet for about 5 – 7 days.
