4 Effective Ayurveda Sore Feet Remedies

This is a guest post by Ms Heather Green, North Carolina.

If you are the type of person who enjoys taking long walks, or a female who likes to wear heels to work, then you probably know all too well what it feels like to suffer from chronic pain in your feet and leg muscles.
According to ancient Ayurvedic texts, chronic pain is usually caused by Vata dosha imbalance in the body due to strenuous exercise, diet or even stress.

If you are hoping to treat the pain in your feet but you are leery of trying over-the-counter pain medications that can damaging to your liver and body, here are four different treatments recommended by Ayurvedic experts:

1. Shallaki for sore feet

Shallaki, also known as Boswellia or Bosweallia serrata, is a herb that has been used by Ayurvedic experts for centuries because it can reduce any pain or swelling in your body. Not only that, it is also a popular treatment for individuals who are suffering from arthritis, chronic colitis, and even Crohn’s disease as well because it acts as an anti-inflammatory by improving cartilage formation and improving blood supply to the joints.

2. Sore feet remedy using Ginger

Scientific studies have discovered that the root of ginger can actually inhibit the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, both of which are related to pain and inflammation in your muscles and joints.

Try drinking some ginger tea mixed with honey every night before you go to bed, or look for Turmeric, a member of the ginger family, at your local food and health store as it is also known to help heal inflammation and mild joint pain.

3. Herbal oil massages

Massaging your feet with herbal oils can help loosen any tightened tissues in your body and also help increase the circulation in your feet as well.

Some of the many herbal oils you can try massaging onto your feet include sesame oil, which works on all three doshas by helping remove any swelling in the muscles, Maha Narayana taila, another popular treatment which can help soothe aching muscles, or even simple oils like mustard oil and olive oil as well.

You can also try adding approximately six drops of Chamomile essential oil into your bath water before bathing and soak in it for at least 15 to 20 minutes, or massage vegetable oil into your feet for approximately five minutes each day.

4. Recommended diet for sore feet

Ayurvedic experts believe that one of the many reasons why an individual experiences pain in their body is because of Vata Dosha imbalance, one of the many ways to tackle this problem would be to re-adjust your diet.

Try to avoid eating specific foods for a few weeks, such as animal foods, citrus fruits,  and try choosing foods that are high in carbohydrates and omega-3 fatty acids instead, such as walnuts, cold water fish, flaxseeds, etc.

You can also try drinking black cherry juice that has been diluted with water at least twice a day, as it is known to help relieve any pain associated with arthritis.
